LEGAKI EKALI
2012 - The Gallery House is a 4-storey builiding of 350 sqm located on a 1020 sqm site. The interior of the Gallery House was designed for a family with a large number of books and paintings. This was also the main focus of the design process. Paintings are displayed on the main wall of the living room and on the smaller walls. The main stairwell that leads to the other levels is also accompanied with paintings allowing for the visitor a feeling of being in a art gallery while moving around the house.

The main staircase is also designed to act as a scuplture mimicing, in an abstract way, elements of a tree. Thus the the main central column acts as the trunk of a tree, the steel supporting beams as the branches and the steps made of teak wood as the leaves. The lightness of the staircase allows for the light to penetrate to the living room area.

The main material of the surfaces in the living room is wood, to accentuate the warmth of the family's main sitting space. On the surfaces of the wet spaces such as the bathrooms and kitchen, marble has been used for its textured surfaces and its water resistant qualities. The dynamics between warm and cold materials is centralised on the main fireplace which is made from black marble as a contrast to the warmth and colour of the fire.
