LOFT EXARHIA
2010 - Loft in Athens. A 200m2 office in an 7 storey office building, constructed in 1975 was converted to a residential apartment. The focal point of the apartment was its open space created by removing the office separation walls. One functions flows to the next thus the entrance, the living space, the dining space and kitchen are without limits. The once small window in the kitchen was widened in order to frame a surprise view of Mt. Lycabettus. Simple lines and shapes together with the neutral cement surfaces and the white coloured walls make the space adjustable to a wide range of design ideas. The bright yellow colour on the wall was the only construction element that deviated from white, this to accentuate the books and exhibits on the wall width shelves. The two other basic colours are the red of the egg chair and the blue of the vertical neon lights attached the supporting columns. A central fireplace was creating in the middle of the glass facade, which captures the sunlight, as another sitting/reading area.
The bathroom and w.c. have wooden floors to contrast the natural stone floors of the rest of the apartment and allow for some warmth. The floors extend to the lower parts of the walls making the spaces seem larger.
This bachelor pad is versatile, spacious with its private and public spaces in a playful balance.
