BUILDING FACADE SCULPTURE AT THE ACROPOLIS MUSEUM COMPETITION
2008 - The competition stated that the participants re-consider the aspect and re-design the back side of the listed buildings on the Dionyssiou Areopagitou St. 17 and 19that face the New Acropolis Museum.
Our proposal for the competition was a surface that covers the back facades of the buildings and that mirrors the surface of the Acropolis rocky outcrop that acts as the pedestal for the temple of Parthenon, the surface is a contemporary interpretation via new material of the Acropolis rock. . The Surface consists of metal triangles and plasma tv rectangles. The metal surfaces are of 3 kinds, a gloss reflective surface that works as a mirror to the environment, a wire surface that allows for light and ventilation for the apartments of the two buildings and a metal matte surface that reflects colours and light from the surrounding natural and built enviroment. The plasma screens broadcast live footage from various points of the city, thus keeping the visitor in contact with the whole city of Athens and footage from important historical moments for Greece. This creates a network of events that are gathered at the New Acropolis Museum.
